Nottatown Roofing is a family business. Dale Pritchard started it in 1978 with one truck, and his son Travis Pritchard has run it since 2009.
How It Started
In 1978, Dale Pritchard started out with one truck, mostly re-roofing the tobacco barns that dotted the fields around Nottatown. Word got around that Dale did good work at a fair price, and before long he was roofing houses, sheds, and shops all over the county.
In 1985 the business moved into the old Nott blacksmith shop on Old Granary Road. The Nott family built the blacksmith shop at the crossroads in 1803, and it is still our home base today at 118 Old Granary Road.
Hurricane Fran
When Hurricane Fran came through in 1996, it left a lot of our neighbors with damaged roofs. Our crew worked long days for weeks and repaired more than 200 roofs. A lot of folks around here still remember that.
The Next Generation
Travis Pritchard grew up on job sites with his dad and took over the business in 2009. Today he runs a crew of six. Travis kept what his father built: honest work, fair prices, and showing up when they say they will.
The Nott Granary Roof
The Nott Granary was built in 1852 to store the community's shared seed corn and wheat. After the Rat Winter of 1853–54, families put more than 60 barn cats inside the granary early in 1854, and the cats cleared out the rats and saved the seed corn. The granary is the center of the Nottatown Cat Worship Festival.
In 2011, volunteers restored the granary. Nottatown Roofing donated the labor and a new standing-seam metal roof. It's the job we're proudest of.
